The grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi) belongs to the Citrus genus and the Rutaceae family. Grapefruit seeds are rich in active substances including flavonoids, hesperidins, apigenin, naringin, quercetin with their antimicrobial properties. It also contains vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium, effective antioxidants against free radicals which cause cell ageing. Grapefruit seed extract is often used in cosmetic hygiene products, for its antibacterial and deodorant action.
